Here are several tips for dove hunting anywhere, and especially here in North Central Texas...
Practice firearm Safety....don't point at anything you are not willing to destroy...finger off trigger until sights are on target...all guns are loaded...never move, climb, enter or exit a vehicle, or exhange loaded guns, know your target, your field of fire, and whats beyond both BEFORE pulling the trigger..
Scout...spend time learning the land, terrain, water areas, feeder areas, and flight paths.
Get off the road...don't be content to be within 150 feet of the roadway
Know your game laws...have your license and ID, don't hunt from or even near a vehicle, keep your birds separate from other people's birds
Use good quality ammunition
Practice early and often, even during the season
Have your firearms in good working order, clean and safe (inspected and cleaned by a gunsmith every couple of years)
Wear good comforatable boots that you have broken in before hunting
Wear appropriate clothing to be comfortable.
Have the gear you need, be prepared, but avoid the junk too.
Have a sling on that gun...
Know your location at all time...have a cell phone...and if hunting with others, use the FRS/GMRS radios...
Have and drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol in the heat (and with guns!)
Use decoys and camo
Be still, turn your head, not your body
Have plastic baggies for your game meat, and ice/cooler to transport the game. Have shears or a knife as needed
Have plenty of ammo in the correct caliber/gauge for the weapon you are using.
Have a cleaning kit with you.
